Outdoor Learning

Learning doesn’t only take place in the classroom – and where better to learn about environmental topics than in nature? Outdoor learning also has tremendous benefits for students, including boosted academic achievement, improved problem solving and critical thinking skills, and reduced stress levels.

Outdoor learning is taking place in (or outside of) most FCPS schools. Over 80 schools have a wildlife habitat on their grounds, and over 75 have an edible garden. FCPS students are working in schoolyard wildlife habitats, growing food in edible gardens, and writing in their outdoor classrooms. The resources here can help you take learning outside.
